An update on my life

May 19th, 2010 by yuukanna

My wife and I are currently in escrow on a house. If everything goes smoothly, we’ll be first time homeowners within a month. The process of looking for a house has been about 7 months of stress and let downs as we put in offer after offer only to have something fall through. I feel good about this house though, and it will be a refreshing change to have finally passed this hurdle.

We also got a puppy. He’s a Jack Russell / Dachshund mix, currently 11.5 weeks old (We got him at 9 weeks). He’s really grown fast in the two weeks we’ve had him, but we don’t expect him to get all that big. He’s named J.D. after the main character in Scrubs, but I generally call him be a whole assortment of nicknames. His potty training is going ok, but it could be better, and as much as he gets along fine with the cat, Oscar (the cat) does his best to keep away from the dog when he can help it.

The Puppy, for your enjoyment.

So we’re feeling fairly accomplished just recently, but we’ve got quite a bit ahead of us. We’ll be moving soon (seems like we’ve done this too often). We’ll need a new tag for the cat and dog while we try to train the cat to stay in a new neighborhood. Megan wants a new couch and I’m sure she’ll have a blast with painting. I’ll get to start testing my handyman skills more often (since there won’t be a landlord to call on). And of course, I’m working on making my computer service business more of a stable source of income.

I’ve also been watching myself closely. I’ve got too many hobbies and my friends call me the “Man of useless knowledge”. While these hobbies are all good and my collecting of knowledge actually useful at times, it means I’m not very focused. I’ve been trying to become more focused and hone myself down to a character with a greater definition. I’ve weaned off many of my hobbies that either lead nowhere or will be shared with hardly anyone. I’ve cut a few feeds from my feed listing and taken digg.com off of my homepage so I don’t feel the need to check it daily.

Of come to a resolution with my hobbies and I’ve decided to focus on computers (since I’ll use it in my career), home improvement (since I’ll be a new homeowner with a desire to improve), Magic: The Gathering (Since this seems to be the only one of my old geeky hobbies that others I know get into), writing (Since I’m a blogger and I intend to be a novelist), art (since it’s one of my favorite hobbies that I’ve ignored for a long time), and of course making my wife happy, which is my favorite hobby.

I’ve also had a habit of saving interesting and funny tidbits on the web to show my wife at a later time… I’ve come to realize that much of this is asking to much of her to take in. So I’ve quit saving all those links for her, and I’ll occasionally be dumping them here to share with my readers instead. That’s where that sort of stuff belongs anyway.

As far as this blog is concerned, this means more on the topics in regards to my new focuses, and more copy-blogging for those of you who don’t have the time, will, patience, or know-how to find all that useless-but-interesting/funny-knowledge, but still have the time, will , patience or know-how to find my blog. Enjoy.
